Description

The project focuses on the development of novel ceramic composites reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNT) for use in ceramic roller bearings or, for example, in all-ceramic heating elements.

CNT ceramic composites with oxide and non-oxide ceramic matrix are considered. The focus is on a tailor-made development of mechanical, electrical and related thermal and tribological properties of these composites as well as their characterization. They also have great potential for expanding existing and developing new fields of application.

The main objective is the production of CNT-ceramic composite materials with defined electrical, thermal, mechanical and tribological properties that go beyond the current state of the art. It is scientifically recognized that the properties can be set and expanded in a defined manner by adding CNTs to ceramic matrices.

As part of this research project, the ceramic primary particles are homogeneously coated with nanoscale catalysts. In the subsequent CVD process, CNTs are deposited directly on the ceramic particles. This has the advantage that an agglomeration of the CNTs is bypassed.
